Job Summary:

 

This will be an evolving position and is instrumental to the start-up and implementation of the PHCC GSA HVAC Apprenticeship Program.  Initial tasks include updating and enhancing curriculum; developing entrance examination assignments, hands-on classroom/shop exercises and exams; and designing and building out the educational laboratory and classroom.  There is flexibility in the initial schedule and hours worked; Year 1 instruction is expected to start Winter 2019, with classes held at night, increasing as students advance to Years 2, 3 and 4. 

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

 

  • Update and enhance existing HVAC curriculum consistent with the Division of Apprenticeship Standard’s Minimum Industry Training Criteria, including developing exams, class assignments and hands-on trainings
  • Create a lesson plan binder, with instructions, text and code book references and quizzes for each Apprentice grade level
  • Implement a paperless classroom whereby all instructional materials are electronic and students interface with computer tablets
  • Create entrance exam, vendor demonstration and field trip itinerary
  • Create a Journey Level Certification examination and update yearly as needed
  • Identify and train substitute instructors
  • Design, build and maintain training labs, equipment, and supplies
  • Teach classes, attend local and out of town jobsite safety visits, field trips, trade shows and career fairs
  • Design and execute the PHCC GSA HVAC Apprenticeship Contest, including coordination of judges, scoring criteria, awards, supplies, materials and logistics

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • 10 years HVAC experience including new construction in both commercial and residential applications, service and repair
  • Graduate of an apprenticeship program, state-approved preferred
  • Experience teaching; experience with apprenticeship programs a plus
  • Experience with on-the-job training an apprentice, required
  • High school diploma

    • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • AutoCAD
  • Ability and willingness to follow procedures; reporting and compliance processes; identify improvements and make changes.
  • Must be willing to travel with some evening and weekend work required
